Welcome to Month 3 on the Japanese Midori Calendar. Or March, as it’s known on many western calendars. In my part of the world it’s an unpredictable month. Current predictions have rain and even thunderstorms in the forecast although yesterday I wandered barefoot in the garden.

The symbol for the third month amidst plum blossoms. What do you think? Or perhaps they are cherry blossoms?
Only one day is marked as a holiday on the calendar: March 20 which is the Vernal Equinox. According to Wiki, it’s a day to honor the dead and pray for good crops to come. It’s also the birthday of my youngest nephew who is an adventurer and first class risk taker. Luckily he’s been lucky but auntie still worries!

My nephew Erik. Yes, he’s a hunk but he’s a married hunk! And she’s a daredevil just like him. My other nephew was born on the 25th but he’s more of a family man. Auntie doesn’t worry too much about him!
This third month of the year is already packing quite a wallop in my country. After giving in to the hatred and fear-mongering, I believe most Americans will realize that the country is being run by idiots and sycophants, that rich men are not necessarily wise or compassion and that a change must be made. Americans who do not support Ukraine against Russian aggression are willfully ignorant of history and the rest of us may be doomed to suffer for their ignorance. Let’s hope not.

welcome third month!
Yes indeed!
And I really liked the blossoms – and do not know if they are plum or cherry??
Jan, the comparison to Germans during Hitler’s rise is unsettling. I’m with you, people will come to their senses.
Hopefully they’ll come to their senses before it’s too late!
History is a bit like a pretty bad play in three, overly long acts. Nobody stays for the ending and since Beckett and Albee wrote the dialog, as a cross between Waiting for Gadot and The Sandbox, few, if any, understand what the hell is going on. But the old theater is beautiful for those who have the money to buy a ticket. Others, end up on the street waiting to get in, begging, committing crimes, picking up odd jobs to get by, dropping dead and we haven’t even mentioned the weather beating down on everything. Sometimes the wind and rain are so loud, people in the theater can’t hear the words. That’s when the producer takes the stage with a megaphone and tells the audience to stay in their seats, cause the show will go on and on and on. And then the theater and the audience and all the street people who could never get in are destroyed by who knows what, and a billion years later (whose counting?) other people will build a new theater and think, okay, now, for the first time ever, history begins. Let’s write a play.
Nothing ever changes does it? I think this time the GOP may have hit the bottom or will soon.
I forgot to mention the idea of old history vs new history. I once, mistakenly, said you represented old history, but you quickly put me in my place. Thanks. I’m just now reading What Are You Going Through by Sigrid Nunez, 2020. There is really nothing more to say or write about what has been going on for these past 15 or so years. Every word she writes is in my mind. Well planted and now in full bloom. Of course, it is always shocking to find someone who mirrors all of your education and experience and who arrives at the same overwhelming conclusions: it’s too late now and the pain will be terminal. Love. Duke
Okay – I borrowed the audio book from the library. So far, a lot like Nora Ephron! A feminist = Duke, you surprise me! I forgot to tell you my mac and cheese is really cheese garlic with a few noodles! I’m surprised you couldn’t smell as much over the phone. Always nice to hear your voice on your unavailable line.Love Jan
As fascists they have a ways to go. Call me when they execute the first million progressives.
He’s too busy hiding out in Florida.
I tried to call but lines from Mexico to your area are filled with Mexicans talking about everything being fucked up.
Pretty much the same thing most Americans are doing.
Lovely to see the calendar blossoms, Jan. Great photo of your family and what a terrific forested view in the background.
Yes we have nice view but unfortunately all those trees are also a fire hazard!
Happy March. Lovely picture of your nephew and his wife. Your last paragraph rings true. I said something very similar earlier today.
My nephew was very lucky to meet a gal every bit as adventurous as him! They are always going someplace out of the way and dangerous! Happy March to you as well!
Thank you
I want it to be a plum blossom on the calendar, so I’ll say it is.
While I agree that most sane + smart Americans will realize that the country is being run by idiots and sycophants, the less with it ones may never catch on that they’re pawns in a rich men’s game. Or they might not care. Indifference may kill us all.
I love the color which I think is plum. It horrifying to see people who should no better sacrifice their honor to stay in T’s inner circle.
That thing from the Oval Room, whatever that was, was embarrassing and unbearable to watch….Then, I go downtown today to see huge flags of Ukraine and Israel hanging down the Rathaus, glued to one another. We are run by world-class hypocrites.
I don’t understand why Ukraine and Israel are linked together. The horror for most Americans was JD Vance – he exposed himself as just as bad as Trump – maybe worse.
In our world, they aren’t and can’t be. Theirs is run by profit, though, which is a game changer.
What can I say… Enjoy your family.
And…
Slava Ukraini. 🇺🇦
Whatever blossoms they are, they are beautiful.
Yes… he’s a hunk!
Slava Ukraine!
(and Canada and East and West Europe, and Japan, and Australia and on!)
