My mother used to quote “Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow,Creeps in this petty pace from day to day…” when she was trying to emphasize that things happen but not always in your favor. YET you keep trying. Hadn’t thought of that in years.
It’s one of the only monologues that I had memorized at one time!
Has to my favorite Will quote.
In high school I was one of the witches and Taff was either MacDuff or Macbeth – I forget … maybe both – he was a bit schizo!
In High School, I did a soliloquy of Lady Macbeth’s “Out, damned spot” scene
I think I may have as well! I wonder if the teachers were encouraging us to be good wives and not plot against the king!
perhaps – but I think a lot of the mainstream school system has an approach that goes beyond gender and just wants all to comply.
Most do a horrible job at raising leaders – and there is no challenging allowed, and even with energy – the athletes and active bodies get sedated to COMPLY and to sit more.
sigh – I will not rattle on – but the note about the good wives was often seen in the religious schools – and in college, this is no lie, so many ladies were gone and later I learned about the “Mrs.” degree – they went to college not to finish but to find a spouse.
I do remember when girls went on to college primarily for the MRS title! You could even get a degree in Home Ec. But college has gotten so expensive that I doubt that happens much anymore.(Shakespeare’s women always seem brighter than the men but stymied by tradition. As I remember, his wife was a bit older than him and there is some debate over whether his daughter actually wrote some of the later plays. Lotta debate about that man!)
yes – a lot of debate and did you like the movie “Shakespeare in Love” – we sure enjoyed it.
Our neighbors gave us the VHS of it – lol – and I guess they hated the movie – but it was a special movie for us – where we still know certain lines (like “50 Pounds!”) and, “It’s a mystery.” – because sometimes things will just work out and it is a mystery as to how!
Anyhow, you might like the movie (if you have not yet seen it) and it does now show much of the truth about William Shakespeare’s wife, Anne Hathaway, as it focuses more on fictional elements and a romantic storyline with Viola de Lesseps!
oh and so sad about higher ed becoming so horribly expensive – and I agree that because of that there are less “MRS degree” seekers.
I have seen the movie and enjoyed it for the most part. I didn’t like the female lead for some reason. Was in Parlow?
yes, it was Gwyneth Paltrow and that is the ONLY movie I actually liked her in. I think she nailed it – and I think Joseph Fiennes is one of the best actors around – esp for Shakes etc – and I think he should have won an award rather than Paltrow – anyhow, who knows how they pick the winners
Fiennes probably would outshine most actresses!
I feel like he gets dissed a lot!

I lean toward the theory that many of Will’s plays were written on the fly with a lot of feedback from the actors which is why they have survived. That doesn’t explain his beautiful sonnets of course. Or negate his brilliance.

This morning there was too much fog to see either sun or moon – so catching both in the same moments it a thrill. At least, for me. I guess I’m an easy person to please!
These are beautiful. Well, I’m not an early riser, even though I was in the military, so I guess I’m not going to capture that kind of beauty. Maybe I can catch an afternoon or sunset one instead.
