Some things should not be political

Like so many people, I’ve given up trying to understand the MAGA movement. Apparently DT is still the president and Biden is a puppet being controlled by Obama who lives in the basement of the White House with his gay lover, Micheal. And if you don’t believe that’s the truth than you lack critical thinking skills and have been brainwashed by the Jesus-hating, baby-killing woke leftist Satanist Democrats. Okay.

From the SF Chronicle – Joel Pett

A few days ago I watched the 2016 movie “Denial” which was about a libel trial in England. A writer, who’d made a name for himself by becoming a prominent Holocaust denier, sued a Holocaust scholar for calling him a liar. In England the burden of proof in a libel case is on the defendant and so the scholar’s legal team had to prove that the gas chambers did exist and that the Nazis knew exactly what they were doing. Further, they had to prove that the writer knew he was spreading false claims but did so for personal gain.

It’s an excellent movie with a message pertinent to today. Too many politicians are saying things they know to be false for personal gain. For example, today a GOP congresswoman claimed the US House of Representatives passed a budget bill funding “pre-birth abortions.” Does she really believe that a doctor will murder a newborn baby simply because the mother asks him to?

I wish the AMA would sue the idiot but I doubt that will happen.

I’ve been fortunate to have known many survivors of the Holocaust. Many were children who lost their entire families. Many came to this country to stay with a relative they hardly knew. Some became conservative Republicans and others become liberal Democrats. But they are all disappearing. Few remain to be doubted and threatened by the deniers. Few remain to defend their truth.

The Holocaust was never a political issue but the MAGAs are the party of DENIAL. They deny the 2020 election results, they deny the insurrection happened or that it was provoked by DT. They deny climate change even though most of them live in states that are frequently impacted by that change. They deny that vaccines work. They deny that a world wide pandemic happened. Perhaps cruelest of all, they deny that Jesus Christ was the son of penniless and probably dirty refugees. I don’t know where the heck they think he came from. Probably some golden palace DT built in a former life.

  1. Great post, JT and it is too bad that what you wrote is the truth about the world that we now live in. I really enjoyed seeing your whit and how you are telling it as it is.

    1. Thank you – I generally think that commenting on the MAGAs is a waste of breath but I draw the line if they start denying the Holocaust as I think everyone in the “free” world should.

      1. I know it is difficult to change people’s minds when they feel that they are right, but we did land a man on the moon in 1969 and the earth is round, but these conspiracy theories still exist despite all the evidence to the contrary.

      2. That too has been denied! I like to think that the movement would die out if it wasn’t being supported by demented old fools and media thirsty bimbos.

  2. It’s truly mind boggling that the party of fiscal conservatism backs a spendthrift con man convicted of financial fraud. The party that fought a ferocious Cold War now embraces Putin and Russia. The party that used to value morality now supports a misogynist creep. My husband hates when I call it a cult… but clearly the traditional Republicans have drunk the Kool Aid and that’s sad… as well as dangerous.

    1. To me, the MAGA folks just want an excuse to put on silly costumes, gather together, growl, stamp their feet, and cheer on some character on television who became famous for humiliating people. They like to be mean and he gives them that outlet. It’s the rich and powerful people who back him because they are greedy and want more tax breaks who really make me angry.

  3. The GOP of today is nothing like the one I grew up around. Denial is their way of twisting things so that they’re the victims of everything modern. They have to have an enemy, and now that they’re playing footsie with Putin, they’re making up new enemies.

    1. Ain’t that the truth! I can’t imagine my father or grandfather voting for any man who hadn’t served his country. Let alone a man accused of cheating on his wife. Or a man who didn’t go to church regularly. Or a man who used a lot of profanity (okay – they were a tiny bit prudish).

  4. This too shall pass.
This country’s bifurcated social belief system is why Communism can never work. 1/2 are altruistic, the other half are self-serving pricks. None of this should come as a surprise given this species headlong plunge into unknown climate alteration. Reduce our consumption to alleviate planetary disaster? Fuck that.
But of course, in the end, it doesn’t matter. It does boggle the mind how illogical some folk can be.

      1. Such people are betting that they’ll somehow be better off without all the social support infrastructure that a liberal society finds critical to a functioning community. And there’s the whole investment in in opinion that most people are incapable of surrendering. “Admit I’m wrong? Never!”

  5. Well said and written… I shake my head every day as I read the French news. In a different way, it seems that madness has taken over there as well…

    Has humanity gone insane?

      1. Don’t we all. And what bugs me is that, as a “student” of history, The only way-out of madness seems to be war, I don’t recall any other historical precedent… 😔

    1. I think there are cycles of insanity throughout history – the dark ages and then the enlightenment. It’s unnecessary but it seems to be the way humans act.

      1. Very true. I just never thought we’d get to see such insanity in our life. (I used to work in the Defence industry in the 80’s… The threat in Europe was extremely real… Soviet missiles were at the Eeast German border…) I still can’t believe we’re back where we started…

  6. Thank you, Jan!

This is an excellent rant of sorts.

I’m sick about what is happening in the USA.

dt is obviously severely mentally ill, deluded and more, but worst of all -Dangerous.

His danger magnet has attracted many other danger magnets (the politicians who are going along with him) and a ton of scrap metal bits. (the cult worshippers).

I’m hoping sanity will prevail in November.

In the meantime, I’ll try to watch “Denial”. It sounds intriguing.

    Best to you!

  7. It’s depressing for sure, and upsetting the people that come out of the woodwork. Trump didn’t create these people, he emboldened them, and they are pushing the establishment Republicans out of power. It’s terrifying.
