MoonBranch and HeartCat

Moon preparing to greet the sun 7:06 am.

Sun rising 7:08

HeartCat wondering if I’ll try to get closer. No kitty … I’ll keep my distance. Can you see why I call him/her HeartCat?

I don’t often do this, but check out Rivergirl’s amazing sunrise shots here. As an aging Baby Boomer, her transcendental photographs put me in mind of this ballad which I’ve always loved.

It’s a song that doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense. Every stanza ends with the sky successively:

  • on fire
  • trembling
  • folding
  • changing color
  • embarrassed and finally
  • erupting

To me, it’s Dylan’s vision of the future of America and we’re at the embarrassed stage. Of course, Dylantologists would disagree. Their consensus is that it’s a breakup poem he wrote to Joan Baez which she then had the good sense to record. So there … take that Bobby! Your loss! What do you think?

It’s a beautiful day out here in Northern California which means the Seahawks and the Patriots are both winners!

  1. Great moon shots! I’ve never cared much for Dylan–not sure why. I love Neil Young who also has an unpolished (aka not always in tune) voice. One winner–SEAHAWKS! woot

  2. Aw, cute HeartCat has a heart on their chest. What a sweet looking kitty! Love your photos of the moon, Jan. Happy day to you!

    1. The young lady who looked after my siblings and I while my parents worked was a huge fan of folk music so I grew up listening to ballads – many of them quite old. Just before she died we sat on a ridge overlooking the SF Bay as the sun set and the sky grew bright red and she sang that song. Thus it has special meaning for me! I hope you are doing well. And the family. And I sure hope you get more snow there in the Rockies.

      1. That is a wonderful memory. ❤️
Thank you! We are all doing great, knock on wood. Yes! I’ve been snow-dancing like crazy.😎
I hope everything has been going well for you, Jan!

      2. It looks like the Sierras are going to get walloped (snow-wise) next week and so hopefully the same system will visit you guys as well. I’ll join you in that snow dance!

    1. Baez has always remained true to her roots and I guess is not widely known (from the other comments) I have tremendous respect for her – that urge for wealth and fame can be overwhelming.

      1. Yeah, and that’s the thing I hate about show business. They focus on money, which isn’t entirely wrong because they need to pay artists and cover everything else, but they often overlook real talent. There are singers out there who are really bad and still getting millions of dollars in record deals. Definitely an unfair system.

  3. I love the heart cat. I hadn’t heard the song either. It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but it is catching. She has an intriguing voice. Thanks for sharing, Jan.

    1. It’s a Bob Dylan song – he wrote allegorical poems and put them to music. Everyone should hear Baez at least once in life! But I am partial – she lives not far from me and has always remained faithful to the plight of the working class.

  4. I like those moon pictures, and HeartCat’s too. I recently looked out our back window one early morning and watched the moon “setting” in the distance. It was pretty cool.
