She gave it a shot. Nesting under the eaves on our front porch. But, upon second thought, she decided not to take the risk. At least, I hope that’s what happened.
In other news, this spring had been brutal on many plants. California is going through menopause with brutal hot flashes followed by stormy temper tantrums. The weathermen don’t even seem to know what to expect. It should be called Global Confusioning.

This poppy plant survived.

From one my all-time favorite Beatles albums, a song about fleeting relationships which always reminds me of sitting by the fire on a snowy night a very long time ago.

I can’t grow a poppy here to save my life. Not sure if it’s me, or Maine but every one I’ve planted has died.
There’s gotta be some breed of poppy that will grow there. Out here they grew in the wild.
The only ones I’ve ever seen here are bright orange and they’re usually in professionally tended beds.
I recently heard a version of this song by the Brazilian singer Milton Nascimento:
What a cool presentation! Thanks – it catches the transcendent feeling of the song beautifully. I’m gonna check this artist out! Thanks!
Hi Jan, the weather sounds very unpredictable. At least you are getting rain.
We never complain about the rain in California! A sudden warm spell in the middle of winter is not unusual but this year it was a hot spell and it lasted much too long.
I can sympathise with the weather and the music and the Milton Nascimento version of Norwegian wood is amazing! Here another lovely one by Alison Morrisette
That is a good one too! Thanks Willow!
She makes it her own💜💜
Global confusioning? That’s a good one. Applies to the world at large, ‘don’t it’?
And thanks for the song. I didn’t remember the title, but once it started I remembered it.
Rubber soul, now? My favourite (with a U in favoUr) is the double white…
Take care, Jan. And do put up more records. 😉
PS. Reading the lyrics again… I don’t know about the US, but in those days in English slang, a ‘bird’ was a girl…
That song has been analyzed a lot! However I’m sure they were referring to a girl and not an actual bird. I’ll ask Paul if I ever run into him. ; )
Do say hello to him…
I love “Norwegian Wood” and Rubber Soul was/is one of my favorite Beatles’ albums. I hope the bird found a more congenial spot. We’re expecting warm (80 degree) weather by next weekend and that’s a LOT for us this time of year. I love those orange poppies!
I love those poppies. We mainly have red ones here.
They generally grow wild all over the place but this year the weather’s been so strange.
In this part of the world, it’s been sunny and pretty stable. Where am I, who am I, and what’s going on?
You must be having an early Spring!
Feels more like summer. Not complaining, just saying.
Beautiful poppies! I hope things improve in California and that there are fewer (or none) wildfires this year.
I guess they’re having wildfires in the South east of all places. I have a friend who moved to Maine to get away from the wildfires and then the Canadian forests burnt and the smoke flew down to Maine. We’re close enough to the coast that we can drive over there if the smoke is too bad.
That’s true. I remember when smoke from the Canadian fires reached Illinois and Iowa. Those fires are incredibly devastating.
I’m so glad the poppy plant survived the Global Confusioning. They are gorgeous, their color is so deep. I like your comparison of the weather in California to menopause. 🙂 Though I’m sure it wasn’t fun.
I’m not the greatest gardener I’m afraid. My garden is a survival of the fittest garden full of “volunteers.”
