I used to sculpt. Sculpting is a lot like writing. You start with a blob. Then you find the shape. Remove the unnecessary, add where there’s a need, smooth over again and again. You lay a lot of skin down in the clay.
Hi Mary, Thx! I used a hot glue gun to adhere the corks to a piece of corrugated heavy duty plastic sheeting (the type you use to line kitchen cabinets.)
Ah, very smart!! I’ll have to start collecting wine corks!! The mats are very funky, and every time you step on them, you must remember the nice times you had drinking the wine.
Jan, I love your sculptures–really beautiful–and also those bath mats! How do you get the corks to stick together? Do you use a needle and twine?

I like your analogy “Sculpting is a lot like writing.”
Wonderful sculpture, Jan. Any chance Orinda (library? arts center?) would include you in a show?
Thanks.
